Refurbishing Two Failing Sewage Treatment Plants at a Luxury Wiltshire Hotel

Overview

Bowood Hotel & Spa relies on two package sewage treatment plants to serve its hotel, spa and golf facilities. Both had deteriorated under a previous service provider, and the hotel’s maintenance team had growing concerns about permit compliance.

The Challenge

WCI’s pre-service inspection found both systems needed extensive work. The Biodisc required crane removal of the filter pack for bearing, sprocket and chain replacement. The bespoke secondary plant was heavily sludged, operating on a single undersized blower, with broken aeration pipework throughout.

The WCI Solution

The Biodisc filter pack was crane-lifted out, the tank emptied and structure inspected, bearings, sprockets and chain replaced and the pack reinstated. For the bespoke plant, all media was removed, confined spaces entry was undertaken to replace broken aeration pipework and inspect diffusers, and the blower kiosk was rebuilt with correctly sized blowers, gauges, ducting and pipework. The final effluent pump station received new floats, a warning beacon and tidied electrics.

The Outcome

All rectification works were completed on time and on budget. Both systems now perform within EA permit standards, with 6-monthly WCI Service Engineers visits including final effluent testing and sludge measurement.
