From Non-Operational to Fully Compliant – Clearwater STP Rectification

A free pre-service inspection of an aged Clearwater STP near Honiton found a system in poor condition – but one that could be saved. WCI Service Engineers chose rectification over replacement.

Near Honiton, Devon

Summary

  • Free pre-service inspection - no charge to identify the problem
  • New air blower, airlines and diffusers installed
  • UKAS-accredited laboratory effluent sample confirmed compliance

Overview

A free pre-service inspection of an aged, non-operational Clearwater sewage treatment plant near Honiton found a system in poor condition – but one that could be saved. WCI Service Engineers costed a rectification rather than replacement, and the results confirmed it was the right call.

The Challenge

The plant’s pumped aeration equipment had failed completely. The existing air distribution infrastructure could not be economically repaired and there was no protection for a replacement blower system.

The WCI Solution

All failed pumped aeration equipment was removed to make way for a modern air blower, new airlines and diffusers. An external blower enclosure was constructed incorporating a low-pressure alarm beacon for early fault detection. The grating above the biozones was secured to improve structural integrity.

The Outcome

A UKAS-accredited effluent sample confirmed the plant was operating to standard. If a system is structurally sound and correctly sized, rectification almost always represents better value than replacement – for the client and for the environment.
