WCI Identifies a Better Solution for a £75 Million Marina Redevelopment
WCI Consulting Engineers was briefed to design a sewage treatment works for the £75m Noss on Dart Marina. Before a single element was designed, we identified a better solution entirely.

Overview
WCI Consulting Engineers was engaged to specify a sewage treatment works for the £75 million Noss on Dart Marina redevelopment in South Devon. Before a single element was designed, we identified that the site’s engineering complexity made on-site treatment the wrong answer – and found a better one.
The Challenge
The historic shipbuilding site was in early construction phases, with complex drainage, a railway line, protected woodland and a significant elevation difference to the nearest sewer. A conventional sewage treatment plant had been assumed, but the constraints of the site made this increasingly difficult to justify.
The WCI Solution
WCI stepped back from the original brief and assessed strategic alternatives. A viable S98 sewer requisition was identified. WCI then developed the full technical design for an adoptable pumping station and rising main, engineered to overcome the railway crossing, protected woodland and the elevation difference between the marina and the receiving sewer.
The Outcome
An economically and environmentally superior solution was delivered. The marina connects to the adopted sewer network, removing the long-term liability of private sewage treatment at a complex, high-use site.
