STP and New Surface Water Pump Station – Two Problems Solved at Park House Farm

Park House Farm had a septic tank surcharging onto clay soils, no available watercourse, and flooding at the back door. WCI Water & Wastewater Engineers solved both drainage problems in a single project.

Overview

When WCI visited Park House Farm, the septic tank was surcharging because clay soils were preventing the drainage field from functioning. There was also flooding at the back door from a surface water drain that was going nowhere. Both problems needed addressing.

The Challenge

Clay soils prevented ground dispersal near the house and no watercourse was nearby. The surface water system was discharging nowhere, and field land drains were also contributing to flooding in the back garden.

The WCI Solution

A new STP was installed with treated effluent pumped to a drainage field in the field above the house. A new surface water pump station with a land drain was installed through the back garden, collecting both rainwater and field drainage and pumping to a new French drain discharging to a field boundary ditch.

The Outcome

Park House Farm has compliant foul drainage and a properly managed surface water system, with flooding at the back door eliminated.
