Overview

Rooksnest development was served by an undersized sewage system operating without a legal EA Consent to Discharge. WCI Water & Wastewater Engineers designed and installed a new reed bed drainage scheme to bring the development into full compliance.

The Challenge

The existing biodisc system was undersized and operating without a legal discharge consent. Macerated pumped influent from the pump chamber required careful design to prevent solids carrying over into the reed bed.

The WCI Solution

A new multi-chamber primary settlement tank with effluent filter was installed to settle macerated solids. Settled effluent then flows through a 240m² horizontal flow reed bed in two parallel cells, discharging to the existing soakaway via an inspection chamber.

The Outcome

The development was handed over operating with a legal EA Consent and a compliant, low-maintenance natural treatment system.
