Overview
When Chelston Park nursing and residential care home faced a failing treatment system that had breached its EA permit, WCI Consulting Engineers was engaged to undertake a strategic review of all options before any replacement was committed.
The Challenge
A reactive replacement without analysis risked installing the wrong solution for a growing business. Chelston Park needed to understand the long-term drainage strategy – accounting for future expansion, the cost and feasibility of a mains sewer connection, and the economics of different treatment technologies.
The WCI Solution
WCI carried out a comprehensive strategic review: CCTV investigation, dye testing of surface water drains, flows and loads review, and a full cost-benefit comparison of mains sewer connection versus private treatment options with and without the existing reed beds. Four mainstream large STP manufacturers were evaluated on cost, treatment quality, footprint, energy consumption and servicing requirements. A 267PE GRAF package plant was selected and installed, utilising the existing reed beds for tertiary treatment.
The Outcome
Chelston Park operates a modern, appropriately sized system meeting its EA permit conditions, serviced every six months by WCI Service Engineers.
