Groundwater Ingress Solved – Bespoke EA Permit Secures Legal Discharge to Dry Ditch

Mid Devon

Summary

  • Bespoke EA permit obtained with numeric BOD, TSS and ammonia discharge limits
  • GRAF one2clean installed with landscaped reinstatement
  • Full final documents pack provided on completion

Overview

The owners of Hatchet and Brandy Cottage were struggling with a septic tank suffering from groundwater ingress. No drainage field site was available. WCI Water & Wastewater Engineers identified a discharge route and worked with the Environment Agency to secure a bespoke permit.

The Challenge

A new drainage field was not possible due to land limitations. A private gulley to a seasonally dry ditch was the only viable route – but this required a bespoke EA permit, and the standard 10-metre perforated pipe requirement before the ditch could not be met on this site.

The WCI Solution

WCI worked with the Environment Agency to find a workable solution. A bespoke permit was awarded with numeric discharge quality limits for BOD, TSS and ammonia. A GRAF one2clean was installed and commissioned, with the surrounding area landscaped and reseeded.

The Outcome

A fully compliant, legally discharged sewage treatment system in place.

Just a brilliant company to deal with from start to finish and even beyond that. Experts in a technical field who are also human are a rarity. Highly recommend them.
