Overview
Taunton School had spent years securing planning permission for two new buildings – one for academic teaching and one for residential boarding – when their private on-site mitigation scheme collapsed at a late stage. With consent at serious risk of delay, WCI Nutrient Neutrality was brought in to find a rapid resolution.
The Challenge
The development sat within the River Tone catchment, where nutrient neutrality is a planning prerequisite. An on-site scheme years in development had fallen through, leaving the application exposed. A replacement solution was needed fast.
The WCI Solution
WCI Nutrient Neutrality prepared a full Nutrient Neutrality Assessment and Mitigation Statement (NNAMS) for the development and supplied 2.20 kg of phosphate credits to offset the scheme’s nutrient impact. The Credit Purchase Agreement was signed within five days of the initial enquiry.
The Outcome
Taunton School became one of WCI’s first nutrient credit clients. The speed of our response demonstrates the value of having both the technical expertise and the credit supply in-house – eliminating the delays that come from coordinating between separate consultants.
