Eliminating Daily Manual Monitoring at a 300PE Leisure Park
A flooded flow meter was forcing daily manual readings to meet an EA permit condition at Edithmead Leisure Park. WCI Service Engineers installed remote telemetry and eliminated the need entirely.
Summary
- 300 PE sewage treatment plant
- Daily manual monitoring requirement eliminated after upgrade

Overview
Meeting an Environment Agency discharge permit requires more than a well-designed treatment system – it requires reliable, continuous flow data. For Edithmead Leisure and Park Homes, a flooded flow meter meant permit compliance was falling on a staff member checking readings by hand every single day.
The Challenge
The existing flow meter had flooded in its original position, making its readings unreliable. There was no remote alert system for faults in either the treatment plant or the final effluent pump chamber, and no automated logging – meaning permit compliance depended entirely on daily physical site visits.
The WCI Solution
WCI Service Engineers produced new electrical drawings for the control panel and installed a Wildeye data logger connected to the existing flow meter and a replacement SensorProm unit. The flow meter was relocated to a dry, protected position. Powered by an internal battery and solar panel, the logger operates independently of mains power. A telemetry unit was added to provide automatic fault alerts for both the treatment plant and the pump chamber. The logger was installed and commissioned by RS Hydro, with a WCI engineer on site throughout to manage integration with the plant’s wider systems.
The Outcome
The system now meets the EA discharge permit’s monitoring requirements through continuous automated logging, with remote access available at all times. Daily manual visits were eliminated entirely.
