Role: PROJECT ENGINEER

Overview

Salary: £35 to £45K 

Location: Based at Head Office nr Taunton, field work across the southwest

Contract: Full time (45 hours per week)

We're growing our Water & Wastewater construction team and are looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join our team based from our head office base in Wiveliscombe, Somerset.

The purpose of the role is to oversee the delivery of wastewater and drainage projects from initial site surveys through to client handover. This includes devising technical solutions for domestic sewage treatment and surface water management, preparing detailed site plans and overseeing works on site.

The position combines elements of surveying, contract management and site management, offering a varied and hands‑on engineering role.

Key Responsibilities

Carrying out property and site surveys using appropriate surveying equipment, including laser levels and setting‑out techniques

Preparing site plans, reports, audits and technical documentation independently

Developing cost‑effective, functional engineering solutions for wastewater and surface water systems

Planning and delivering projects efficiently, ensuring materials and resources are procured at best value

Creating bills of materials and resource plans

Managing projects through to construction, ensuring compliance, safety and quality standards

Supporting the development of a pipeline of work and contributing to sales targets

About You

You will be solutions‑orientated, confident working independently, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities across surveying, contract management and site supervision.

Background in civil engineering, wastewater engineering, drainage, construction or groundworks

Groundworks operations including surveying, laser level use, setting out, safe excavation to depths of 3–5m, plant operations and site management

Technical problem‑solving with strong numerical capability and a high level of written literacy

Quantity surveying principles and construction contracts

Desirable

Experience with plant operations and safe excavation to depths of 3–5m

Knowledge of shoring techniques and construction contracts (desirable)

SSSTS/SMSTS qualification (or working towards) is a bonus
