WCI have been working at Burgh Island Hotel, off the South Hams coast near Bigbury-on-Sea, to design a new foul and surface water drainage scheme.
Designing a functional and compliant drainage scheme has not been easy. The island is approached by a tidal sand causeway and lies adjacent to a designated Bathing Water. Working closely with the Environment Agency WCI secured a Local Enforcement Position. This allowed for work to progress in parallel with environmental permitting. We have designed a pragmatic approach to the foul drainage. This takes account of the unique access and physical constraints of significant construction work on an island.
Of course, the daily commute via Sea Tractor and ice-creams on the beach weren’t too bad either!
Working at WCI allows us to work with some amazing people and at some special places – including working at Burgh Island. This post is part of a series celebrating all the special things we get to do.
