Role: Head of Construction and Operations
Salary: £50K – £80K DOE
Location: Head Office nr Taunton
Contract: Full time (40 hours per week)
We now have a vacancy for a Head of Construction and Operations to join our growing team based at our offices in Wiveliscombe, Somerset.
The purpose of the role is to oversee the construction performance, commercial progression, procurement, health and safety, management and deployment of resource and broader facilities management with one direct report. Further details below:
Construction
- Designate & lead the turnkey construction division with P&L responsibility.
- Manage quality and profitability through a team of contracts managers/project engineers, operations assistants and estimators/QS.
- Contribute to the strategic development of the division alongside the Directors.
Project Planning & Coordination
- Schedule instructed construction work coordinating the necessary resources and commitments to maintain an efficient and productive construction schedule.
- Manage preparation of project work (for all divisions including Construction and Engineering Services) including Construction Phase Plans, safety file, job resources, RAMS, Building Control notices, etc
- Manage job completion paperwork including photographic records, building and electrical completion
- Coordinate statutory permissions for project work (eg TTRO, Building Control, Streetworks, F10s, S50s, Land Drainage Consent, etc)
Sub-Contractor Management
- Manage sub-contractor portfolio including identifying necessary sub-contractors, PQQ, records of competency and insurance
- Schedule sub-contractors against required services
- Manage general quality and competency of sub-contractors, drawing on job-specific performance and feedback from Project Engineers
Health & Safety
- Ensure delivery of WCI Health & Safety Policy
- Maintain SSIP Accreditations
- Coordinate preparation and maintain library of Risk Assessment and Method Statements for all activities of the business
- Maintain Accident Book and coordinate accident resolution and investigations
Procurement
- Maintain an up-to-date WCI Price Book
- Source job-specific prices for bid preparation
- Manage procurement/hire of job-specific and stock inventory for all divisions of the business
- Maintain Purchase Order database
- Develop procedures and policies to ensure profitable procurement for the business (eg supplier management, rebate negotiation, loss management, PO and GRN management, etc)
Yard & Warehousing
- Manage yard and warehousing including stock management, yard and warehouse organisation and cleanliness,
- Implement waste management procedures
- Facilities management
- Manage stock items including correct stock levels across warehouse and van inventories
Equipment and Tools
- Manage tools and equipment including calibration, repair, replacement, recovery, regulatory testing, etc.
- Develop procedures and policies to ensure correct protection, dispatch, use and availability of tools and equipment. Includes new starter and leaver inventories.
Fleet Maintenance
- Manage fleet vehicles including repair, replacement and procurement
