Chelston Park is a nursing and residential care home located in the foothills of the Blackdown Hills in Somerset. Faced with a failing foul drainage system, WCI helped Chelston Park review their options and ultimately installed a GRAF sewage treatment plant capable of delivering effluent of high quality to meet the home’s Environmental Permit conditions.
Strategic Foul Drainage Review
Chelston Park is a successful and growing business. Rather than simply replace the existing failing treatment system, WCI first understood a belt & braces strategic review of the drainage options available to Chelston Park. We considered the future growth of the business, availability of public sewers, planning constraints and the economics of each option. This meant that Chelston Park was able to make a well-informed decision taking account of capital and operating expenditure and the other needs of the business.
Cost Effective, High Quality Sewage Treatment
Ultimately, a GRAF sewage treatment plant was selected for installation as mains sewer connections were found to be subject to significant constraints and cost. The GRAF treatment plant was installed with a granular surround allowing significant cost savings and environmental benefits over systems requiring concrete backfill.
WCI completed the installation and commissioning of the treatment plant while maintaining foul drainage to the busy property by using a temporary above ground sewage treatment plant. The installation was completed on time and on budget before being commissioned by our British Water-accredited engineers. The system is now performing wonderfully and is serviced on a 6 monthly basis by WCI.
